How to Check Your League of Legends Ping Out of the Game
- League of Legends servers – IP address League of Legends (LoL) is a 2009 multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X.
- The latest announcements from the studio that makes League. Rise Against Ruin on Console and PC.
Sign up and play League of Legends, the world's largest online multiplayer game. LoL is a free competitive MOBA, featuring a roster of 120+ champions. When you join a game in League of Legends, you have to connect to the Riot servers. In order to connect to these servers, you send data down a connection (your internet service provider) which connects you up to the server. The server then responds with a message and sends it back the same way.
Have you ever joined a game in LoL only to be greeted with 800+ ping? Not only does it make the game unplayable, but your entire team turns salty and barrages you with abuse. Although it happens to the best of us, wouldn't it make sense to check if you were laggy BEFORE you joined the rift? After all, it's 2019; there are not many excuses for lagging these days.
Luckily, checking your ping before you join a game is possible and surprisingly easy to do. Within just a few seconds you can work out how fast or slow your internet is, and if it's worth avoiding LoL for a few hours.
Before we look at the various ways you can test your ping, what exactly is ping and how does it make you lag?
What Is Ping?
For the not so tech savvy, the word ping might sound like a complicated technical term, but it's really not. Simply put, ping can be defined as: a software utility that is used to test the reachability of a host on an internet protocol (IP) network. Results are displayed in ms (milliseconds).
If that still seems like technical jargon, let's break it down even more;
When you join a game in League of Legends, you have to connect to the Riot servers. In order to connect to these servers, you send data down a connection (your internet service provider) which connects you up to the server. The server then responds with a message and sends it back the same way.
The total journey of this connection from your PC to the server is measured in milliseconds which can give you an idea of how laggy you are. The higher the number, the laggier you are. 60 is bearable for most people, but any number over 100 is going to give you issues.
Pinging a server is a quick and easy way to work out your internet's response time without having to ever enter the Rift. This simple number can help you determine how laggy you are and if you should bother playing at all.
If the number is very high (over 100) then that means it's taking 0.1 seconds for the server to send a message back to you. That might not sound too long, but in the world of gaming, it's an eternity! Most players are used to playing with 40 ms ping or less, with some players even being blessed with less than 20 ms.
Hopefully, this has helped you understand what ping is why, and why lower is better. But what exactly causes you to lag in the first place?
What Causes Lag?
In game lag can be caused by many different factors; However, they all have one thing in common: they greatly increase your ping. In turn, this high ping delays the response between your PC and server, which turns your gaming experience into something very frustrating.
Your clicks become unresponsive, everything starts to teleport and rubber band around the game, things start breaking, and you find yourself staring at an eternally gray screen.
League Of Legends Server Ip Europe
Although lag can be caused by many different factors, one of the most common is simultaneous downloading. If you're playing LoL and trying to download something else at the same time, then this can cause your ping to instantly explode. This happens because your internet connection is getting stuffed full of data and bytes and trying to send lots of information to various servers. If your internet line is constantly hogged, then it will slow down the communications between the servers and you. This is why lots of people experience high ping and lag in game, usually because they have something downloading in the background.
However, it doesn't have to just be on your computer. If anyone on your network is using your internet, then they can also clog up your line.
If your brother is watching 1020p Minecraft lets plays while your mum Skypes her work colleagues, then they're essentially leaching the Wi-Fi, and lagging up your game.
Now you know what causes the lag you experience in LoL, how can you check you're not lagging before you hit the rift? Licking county jail active inmate listing.
General Ping Test
The first way to check your ping is to connect to a generic server, and the best way to do this is to use a free tool such as SpeedTest.net. This tool will automatically connect to one of its many servers and test your ping for you.
The results will give you a good idea of how stable your connection is. A low score of 50 or less is ideal for playing LoL – Anything higher, and you might start to suffer.
If there are any Wi-Fi thieves (such as members of your family downloading) then it will be represented by a high ping score. However, sometimes you'll have a low ping but still experience lag in game. How come?
Well, sometimes the problem is with a specific server and not your internet in general. This is why we've included a second test which will allow you to test Riots individual servers.
Specific Server Test
The second way to check your ping is to test your connection to the individual Riot servers, this can be done on any PC, and it only takes a few minutes. The benefit of this compared to the other method is that it will give you the same ping figure you will get in game.
If you're getting a really high number of over 100 then it's probably best not to play LoL at that moment in time.
The first thing you'll want to do is to pick which server you want to connect to. Check the list below to choose which server you want to test your ping on.
- NA – ping 104.160.131.3
- EUW – ping 104.160.141.3
- EUNE – ping 104.160.142.3
- OCE – ping 104.160.156.1
- LAN – ping 104.160.136.3
- BR – ping 104.160.152.3
Once you've picked the server you want to test, its time to ping the server using your computer. If you're in windows then open up search 'cmd' and open up the command prompt. Once opened type the command 'ping ipaddress', and replace the ipaddress with one from the list above. You will then see a list of numbers appearing.
The most important bit is where it says time= as this is your ping in ms. A high number (over 100) is not good for LoL and is best to not play altogether. A low score means you should be able to play without any problems which is exactly what you want.
Now you know how to test your ping before you enter the rift, you'll never fall victim to unexpected lag.
How To Reduce LoL Ping
'Sry, lag' is the go-to excuse for many LoL players, but what do you do if you're actually lagging?
We don't have time to list all the ways you can improve your ping, but we can cover the most important!
Disable Background Updates
When trying to decrease ping in League of Legends, your first port of call should be to then close all background downloads and updates. Simply open up the task manager and get rid of all background applications that you think might be leeching your bandwidth with auto downloads and updates.
Check Your Firewall Settings
The job of firewalls and antiviruses is to scour your computer for anything that's potentially harmful – This means that they might be blocking some of LoLs data packets, which could increase ping.
Fortunately, the solution is simple; All you have to do is add LoL to your Windows firewall exemptions list!
Lower Your Graphics
Twiddling with your graphical settings until you find a sweet spot is a good way to reduce lag. Simply jump into a game – preferably a bot game, if you don't want to be told off for afking in the base while enemies are invading – and adjust them until you find graphics settings that work for you.
Close Other Programs
This doesn't mean that you have to close every program, but you don't need both Discord and Teamspeak loaded up while in game. Taking a minute to ensure that you've closed everything you don't need could be a real lifesaver.
Get Connected
If you want to take LoL seriously, then comfort should take a backseat. As much as you might want to lie back on your bed with your laptop next to you, it's not efficient.
Wi-Fi tends to be quite unreliable, and you may often find yourself suffering from high ping – this is especially true if you're connecting to the Wi-Fi from a different room. Ideally, using an ethernet cable should be the top of your list when it comes to fixing lag. If you want to win, plug it in.
Of course, there's plenty of other ways to fix ping, these are simply the most major. For a more detailed look at pink, check out this article.
Ping ruined your ranking?
No one can argue the popularity of League of Legends – the numbers speak for themselves. Show me another game with a monthly player count of 115 million and upwards of 50 million players online each day.
Just because LoL is popular doesn't mean battling for supremacy on a Field of Justice is always a trouble-free experience.
DDoS attacks, internet service provider (ISP) bandwidth throttling, difficulty logging onto gaming servers, network restrictions – these are just some of the issues we may run into.
Using a VPN to connect to the game can help with these problems (as a bonus, it will also let you access game servers outside your region).
And no VPN provider does a better job of it than NordVPN. They are one of the best VPNs for League of Legends.
In this article, I'll cover everything you need to know about playing League of Legends with NordVPN and how it can improve your gaming experience. Volvo vida 2014d iso download.
Can You Play LoL With NordVPN?
Let's first address what most will consider the elephant in the room. Is playing League of Legends with NordVPN possible (or allowed)? The short answer to both is yes, yes it is.
That said, there are two common concerns about doing it. Let's dig deeper into those now.
Account Sharing Bans
Many of us worry that since using a VPN changes our IP address, Riot Games may see it as account sharing.
Sharing LoL accounts is against the rules because:
- There are a ton of free RP and account buy/sell scams going around.
- You can blame anything you say or do in-game on someone else using your account.
- Getting another person to play for you is unfair.
In fact, Riot considers account sharing a serious enough problem to make it a permaban offense.
So, would using NordVPN get you in trouble? Not really.
We all have our unique game style, preferred champion, etc. When you play over a VPN, other than the IP address, everything else still points to the player being you.
If you're really worried about being accused of sharing an account when using a VPN, contact Riot's support team ahead of time. Tell them you'll be using one.
With the interaction logged, even if you run into a problem later on, you'll be able to dispute and fix it easily.
Connection Speed
The other common concern about using VPNs with LoL is speed. Will the connection speeds be fast enough for a decent gaming experience?
Again, the answer is yes.
VPNs encrypt your traffic, which does slow down the connection a bit. However, most top-tier providers have performance well in hand and continually optimize, upgrade, and expand their server network.
Sporting excellent speed test results, NordVPN certainly rates as a top-notch gaming VPN.
So, when using the right VPN, any hits to performance will be negligible. And NordVPN might even speed up your connection – more on that later!

Why Use a VPN for League of Legends
So, you can use NordVPN for League of Legends. And why would you want to?
Here are the main perks:
Fix LoL Server Connectivity Issues
Many League of Legends server connection problems can be caused by your internet service provider and bandwidth throttling.
Online gaming can use a ton of data. Because of this, some ISPs knowingly throttle and slow down your connection. They say it's to prevent network congestion, though ultimately, who knows. They're rarely open about the practice, too.
Using a VPN stops ISP throttling. VPNs encrypt your traffic, which hides your online activities from the ISP. When the ISP can't tell what you're doing, they won't throttle you.
And with full bandwidth at your disposal, many LoL connectivity issues disappear.
Protection From DDoS Attacks
The competition on League of Legends can be pretty cutthroat. So much that distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks are an issue.
A DDoS attack cripples your internet connection. It may significantly reduce your bandwidth and increase latency – both of which will make you much less competitive (assuming you'll be able to play at all).
To pull off a DDoS attack, the other player needs your IP address. Using a VPN makes getting it impossible – your IP is hidden and replaced by that of the VPN server.
So, can't the attacker just DDoS that VPN server? Yes, they can. But with a provider like NordVPN, they won't get very far.
NordVPN takes privacy and security very seriously and runs sophisticated DDoS protection systems on all their servers. When you play League of Legends connected to one, you don't have to worry about DDoS or any other malicious attempts to weaken your game, steal your information, or spy on you.
Use Any LoL Game Server You Want
Are you going on vacation but will still want to play League of Legends on your local server? Do you want to play with friends in other countries? Or maybe you're just looking to test your skills against players on new continents?
With a VPN, you can play any LoL server you want.
When you connect to a VPN, your traffic reaches the internet at large only after it passes through a VPN server. At that point, everyone thinks the server's location is your location – including Riot.
In other words, connect to one of NordVPN's Australian servers, and you'll end up on the League of Legends OCE server. Choose a VPN server in Germany, and you'll be conquering Europe West.
It's as easy as that.
Bypass Geo-Blocks
While there aren't many countries where you can't play League of Legends, they do exist.
Because of US imposed sanctions, players in Iran and Syria can no longer access LoL. Try to connect from either country, and you'll be greeted with this (now infamous) error message:
League Of Legends Euw Server Ip Ping
'Due to US laws and regulations, players in your country cannot access League of Legends at this time.'
Other countries, like Taiwan and Vietnam, restrict player access to and from other regions.

NordVPN and League of Legends
What makes NordVPN the best VPN for League of Legends?
For starters, it's an excellent service – plain and simple. But NordVPN also has some specific advantages over other providers when it comes to LoL:
- Servers in all LoL countries – with NordVPN's extensive network , you can connect to any of League of Legends' servers and play like a local.
- Excellent speed – up to date hardware, fast data center connections, and well-optimized software keep latency to a minimum.
- Top-notch security – NordVPN uses impossible to crack AES-256 encryption and a sophisticated anti-DDoS system to protect you and your data when you play.
How To Use NordVPN With LoL?
To start playing League of Legends with NordVPN, here are the steps to follow:
- Go to NordVPN's website and sign up.
- Download the desktop application.
- Choose a server close to you (for best speed) or in your target LoL server region.
- Connect to the VPN server.
- Log in to League of Legends and start playing.

To go back to your regular connection, turn off the VPN. It really is as simple as that.
Will Using NordVPN Lower Ping?
Ping (a.k.a. latency) is how long it takes data from your device to reach its destination – in this case, a League of Legends server. Low ping is great; high ping makes for a terrible gaming experience.
League Of Legends Server Ip Turkey
Generally, all VPNs will increase latency. But, with a fast provider like NordVPN, that increase should be barely noticeable.
And if your ISP is throttling your internet connection when you play games, using a VPN will have the opposite effect – your ping will go down (and sometimes significantly so).
How To Speed up NordVPN With League of Legends?
There are several things you can do to increase the speed of a VPN. So, if you connect to NordVPN and find performance not quite what it should be, here are a few easy potential solutions:
- Switch to another server. Even though NordVPN runs thousands of servers and does a great job of load balancing, congestion on a single server may still happen. Try disconnecting from your current server and picking another one in the same region.
- Pick a different server location. The closer the VPN server is to you, the better. NordVPN offers multiple server locations in a ton of countries. Pick the closest one.
- Choose a different VPN protocol. VPN protocols can make or break performance. Make sure you're using either OpenVPN UDP or WireGuard (which NordVPN calls NordLynx). You can also try dropping encryption from 256-bit to 128-bit. It's still secure but will maximize speed.
Final Thoughts
Playing League of Legends over a VPN can make your gaming experience that much better.
If you have trouble connecting to League of Legends, it may fix connectivity issues – especially those caused by your ISP. You'll be able to jump on any LoL server you want. VPNs will also keep you safe during your gaming sessions from DDoS attacks and other online threats.
Of the many available VPN options, NordVPN is hands down your best bet.
If you haven't tried them already, definitely consider taking them for a spin – you won't be disappointed. And with NordVPN's iron clad 30-day money-back guarantee, you can do it 100% risk-free, too.
